The C.R.A.B. (Cybernetic Autonomous Remote Barricade) robot may currently be just a 3D design concept, but it’s an inspiring look at the potential abilities of future defense robots. The C.R.A.B. was designed by Jamie Martin for Dalton/Stanley, a fictional weapons and armaments company. As can be seen in the animated fantasy promo video below, the robot is soon to be “trialed live on the streets of London, England.”

The six-legged robot is equipped with reinforced body armor, twin cannons, and gas and smokescreen abilities. It also has artificial intelligence that enables it to distinguish between friend and foe.

Martin’s website provides a (fictional) description of this terror-inspiring creation:

“The advanced robotics technology behind the C.R.A.B.'s artificial intelligence have been secretly developed over the past 12 years as a joint venture between weapons manufacturer Dalton/Stanley and megacorporation Omni Consumer Products.

The results of their historical collaboration has been to produce the most advanced robotic defence system ever constructed, featuring next-generation weaponry and armour protection. The C.R.A.B. is set to pave the way for all future Police and Military automaton technology from here onwards, and will be found on patrol in the public domain very soon.”

Jamie Martin is also known for his design of the Cobra Venon V8 concept car, as well as for having his design ideas incorporated into the (real) next-generation London Bus. Martin’s designs can be seen at http://www.jamiemartindesign.co.uk/index.html.
