HPI has plans to release a new DIY robot kit this summer. The robot, with the street-wise name of G-Dog, will be the robot's best friend to the company's humanoid kit, which goes by the much nerdier name of G-Robot or GR-001.

G-Dog stands at a height of about 5.3 inches, and features the same control unit and sensors as GR-001. Presumably, like the 9-inch-tall humanoid, the canine version can be programmed from a PC and controlled with a wireless remote. The company has not released details of its abilities, but it will likely be able to mimic a real dog to an extent.

Other features include motion processing software, a built-in three-axis acceleration sensor, and nine degrees of freedom. The robot will go on sale in Japan this July at an estimated price of $1,000.
