RoboPhilo (whose name means, literally, "Robo Love") has recently gone on sale at RoboBrothers.com for $499.

RoboPhilo is not just a toy, though. It's a programmable robot, with 20 servo motors controlling the head, legs, arms and other joints that enable the humanoid to perform a variety of actions.

Owners can program the 13-inch-tall robot using either the wireless remote that comes with it, or a PC.

RoboPhilo was designed by World Models Mfg., known for their RC model airplanes, and RoboPhilo is their first RC humanoid project.

The company hopes that the sophisticated robot will attract more entry-level hobbyists, as it comes pre-assembled, and is less than half the price of robots with similar complex features. To date, RoboPhilo is about the least expensive programmable robot of its kind.

There are also hints that a kit version of RoboPhilo will be available for $399 that buyers assemble themselves.
